Arthur Ashe Stadium, the iconic main court of the US Open, is set for a major transformation as part of an $800 million renovation plan announced by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

The project represents the largest single investment in the history of the US Open and focuses on enhancing both fan and player experiences at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

A key component of the plan is to expand Arthur Ashe Stadium’s seating capacity by approximately 2,000. The stadium currently holds 23,771 spectators, making it the largest tennis arena in the world.

In addition to increased capacity, the renovation will introduce a redesigned main entrance and modernized facilities for fans inside the venue.

Another major feature of the project is a new player performance center, which will offer expanded indoor and outdoor warm-up areas to better support athletes during the tournament.

According to the USTA, the renovation will be self-funded and carried out in phases between tournament seasons to minimize disruption. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2027.

Lew Sherr, CEO and executive director of the USTA, stated:
“This project enables us to maintain the greatest stage in tennis—Arthur Ashe Stadium—which was constructed more than 25 years ago, and modernize it in a way that will set it up for the next 25 years.”
