2" solid square steel trailer axle weight capacity?

How do you know the axle is solid? AFAIK all small trailer axles are hollow. It is cheaper and less weight, to increase tube size rather then make it solid.

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one who's ever seen these axles? I'm only 30 and I've built many trailers since I was 15, several using these same axles that I purchased used from trailer parts sellers and craigslist. When I've purchased them I've never got an educated answer on their capacity from the sellers. Anyone who's ever shopped used trailers or for used trailer axles knows that every trailer axle is a 10K axle. These axles "have the beef" IMO so I've searched them out and bought them in the past and now I have my first real "manufactured" trailer and it has the same axles under it.

They are pretty distinctive when you see them- They are clearly not tubing when you try to lift one of them and the way they are made (all one piece) pretty much rules out tubing. When you cut them in half to set the width, camber and toe of the axle and they are solid that's a good indication they are not tubing.

I've used these axles before, grossly overloaded them and they've done great by me, however, I'm a little older now, I've had things go wrong a couple times now and would like to have a better margin for error because my judgement isn't always perfect (I might load a 12K machine that really weighs 19K, etc).

I'm so curious about these axles because I would like to make the trailer a triple single for a better safety margin and instead of buying all new axles and hardware I would rather just add another identical axle and spring set to the pair already here. I have already found two more of the same exact axles (just wider) for a reasonable price. If these axles are only 3000 pound or so rated I will pass and spend the bucks on newer ( lighter weight) tubular axles.

Does the lug pattern mean something? I've been told that 5 on 5.5, 6 on 5.5 and 8 on 6.5 axles are at minimum 5K axles. The hubs, brakes, bearings, etc seem to interchange between these lug pattern axles in general.

Also, I got the trailer from Pacific Power who purchased it new in '76. It's factory VIN plate rating is 12K gross, but like I said it looks like atleast the springs and hangers have been replaced before. The just put 4100 lb each G rated tires on it and new extra thick wheels too.
